Description

This unit aims to enable the student to develop methods and tactics in order to simplify the research process in chemical engineering in the context of a University research programme. The module will cover: 1) Why research is conducted (theory building and hypothesis formation) 2) How research is conducted and results analysed 3) How research is presented 4) How the community learns from published research and vice versa. The student will gain an appreciation of philosophical objectives of research in chemical engineering. Core to this module will be an awareness of the research environment in respect of background understanding of the literature and safe execution of research in an ethical manner. This will draw on real experiences from the research process. Towards the end of the module some basic analytical tools relative to research in chemical engineering will be presented.
